The Orthosis

"Orthoses" (plural) is the more modern word for what used to be called braces, irons, stays, or splints. An orthosis is a device that is used to protect, support, or improve function of parts of the body that move. This is brought about by the bracing function of the orthosis. The professional who evaluates, designs and fits an orthosis is an orthotist.

The Rehabilitation Team:

Recovery Begins

Whether your orthotic needs are a result of disease, traumatic injury, or congenital problems, your rehabilitation will be designed to meet your special needs. An orthotist will have a prescription from your physician and will consult your physical or occupational therapist as well as other healthcare professionals involved with your care.
